Plant Grow Lights are a great way to bring the outside sun indoors to promote indoor plant growth. Grow lamps emit an electromagnetic spectrum that is similar to the light spectrum emitted by the sun, which is well suited for photosynthesis. Different stages of plant growth need different light spectrums: Blue spectrum of light is best suited for the vegetative stage. Red – Orange spectrums are best suited for the flowering stage.

Indoor Grow Lights can be bought by each spectrum color or full color spectrum bulbs are also available. To achieve high intensity light, similar to the sun, reflectors are used to control and intensify the light source. Additionally to have even greater control, an electrical ballast is used to adjust the current powering the light.

Indoor Plant Grow Light Lamps produce color spectrums in various ways; two types of bulbs are High Pressure Sodium and Metal HalideThe High Pressure Sodium bulb is in the red-yellow side of the spectrum and the Metal Halide is very balanced and covers the blue-white side of the color spectrum.

Standard fluorescents are generally used for growing your leafy vegetables such as lettuce, spinach, basil and all types of herbs. They are particurly good at starting off seedlings as the tubes burn relatively cool and emit a low level light.

High Output fluorescents produce almost twice the amount of light of the standard fluorescents and are still cool burning. A HO fluorescent fixture has a very thin profile, making it extremely useful in vertically limited areas.

Recent advancements in LEDs have allowed for the production of a new wave of growth light systems. One that I have discovered is the LED Grow Master that we feature Here.    They can save you money by using 33 times less energy than comparable metallic vapor lights. They have a greater bulb life which can range from 20,000 to 100,000 hours.

They require no ballast or secondary reflectors, the actual LED has its own reflector built in. They are warm to the touch, have a targeted light output so produce only the colors of light needed for efficient growth and the safety advantages are endless.
