I have a growbox with tomatoes that keep growing taller, but won’t flower and bloom. Any ideas?
I’m using two 4′, t8, fluorescent, 6500k bulbs 12-18 hours a day and a time released, balanced 20-20-20 plant food. They are growing right up to the lights, they are branching out, although not as much as I would like, but that’s probably the narrow path of the light from the bulbs, but won’t flower. And they have plenty of filtered water as I keep the growbox full. No curling or discoloration on the leaves, no bugs eating them. The temp is a near constant 75-78 degrees. They are a light green compared to the ones I have started with the same lights and transplanted outside. The outside ones get a nice, dark green color, then flower after a couple of weeks and are producing right now. Are they too cold? or are the bulbs the wrong spectrum? I’ve tried the 6500ks with some 3500ks and the results were the same.
I’m not sure you have enough light. You mentioned the outside plants are darker green……..a good indication your indoor plants still are not getting enough….or the full specturm light they need. I’m not sure if switching one of those tubes to a warm light (kinda pinkish) might not help. You don’t need the special grow tubes, they are too expensive.
Ditto the high nitrogen. Try lowering that first number. Also are your plants getting micronutrients such as zinc, magnesium, iron, etc? The leaf symptoms aren’t quite right for micronutrient deficiency, but you never know.
Also reduce the night temperature. Plants run at a constant temp never get a chance to store reserve energy to progress into flowering and fruiting. The high night temp is allowing respiration to run too quickly at night, using up the energy made during the day. A drop of 5-8 degrees may do the trick
How about air circulation. Plenty of fresh air, right?
