What can I plant in this spot that is getting less sun because of a tree?
I live in northern Ohio near Lake Erie. I have a small garden in which I have been growing tomatoes for years and years. The last two years my yields have been falling off and I believe it is because of a maple tree on the other side of the yard getting large enough to shade the garden a lot more. I’m moving the tomato plants to see if I a can get them more sun, but want to plant some vegetable that will grow with less sunshine in the old spot. Some friends have suggested radishes and lettuce, but they don’t thrill me. I’m wondering if green beans would work. I can always put flowers in the spot.
Beans also like sun. Leafy vegetables can get by with less sun – spinach, cabbage, kale, parsley, and chives. Mint also will but keep it in a large pot – not in the ground – or it will spread.
