Betta tank set-up ok?
I have a 2.5 gallon hex tank w/gravel, undergravel filter, hood and surface light, a rock he can swim thru and a live plant. The water temperature usually stays around 75 degrees.
I bought a 7.5 watt mini heater but the water temp got up to 82 degrees. Isn’t that too hot?? Do I really need a heater if the water temp stays at 75 degrees when just the surface light is on??
The heater can’t be adjusted
The water temp goes down to about 70 degrees when the light is turned off.
Bettas are a pretty low matinence fish. I had a betta living in a vase for 6 years. I would say forget the heater, the fish will be okay. Really you only need the light on if you’re looking at the fish. Too much artificial light creates brown alage which won’t be cleaned up by the beta. 82 degrees is way too hot. Your fishy will be fine if it’s left alone in the tank. Good luck!
