Detection of Earth Fault in 110V dc Distribution?
Can any one tell me How to invent a simple circuit to detect the location of earth fault in 110 V dc distribution without affecting the source supply (charger & batteries) or affecting the loads distribution (control & protection relays) in a power plant?
The most simple wound be two neon lamps. One connected to positive and earth, the other connected to negative and earth. If either lights up, then there is a fault.
An improvement might be to switch a transistor and have the transistor switch a relay. The relay then connected to an alarm or the plant control system.
Ideally you buy a battery monitor system that has the necessary circuits in it and also does a periodic load test on the batteries.
