Coral growing question?
ok so im pretty experienced in freshwater having bred different types of fish and aquascaped tanks/ propagated plants. Now its time to move on to something different. i just got a 60 gallon tank for christmas and i want to make a saltwater reef tank.
The tank came with a light fixture that can contain one 40w bulb. will this be enough to grow corals or would i need more lighting. if so what kind of lighting should i get. is there a certain watt per gallon ratio.
Also what do you feed corals. any other tips on growing and propagating corals would be appreciated
You need atleast 3 watt per gallon to grow lower light coral and 5+ for higher light coral. T5 HO lighting is generally the minimum and metal halide is usually recommended.
As for feeding. Corals get most food from photosyntisis so you need good lighting. They also eat phytoplankton, zooplankton such as brine and mysis shrimp and pellet foods.
