What is the best heating and light for my leopard gecko?
I recently bought a leopard gecko. I have adequate room, hiding spots, water bowls, logs…etc, but I am not too sure about heating and lighting. I heard mixed opinions from different pet store employees and need some advice.
I currently have a daytime basking light that I turn on during the day and a red night-time bulb that I turn on at night if the temperature is not high enough. It currently gets fairly warm during the day so I don’t use a heating pad since I achieve the optimum temperature without a heating pad. I will acquire one when winter comes to compensate. Some people said that my setup is fine the way it is.
However, some other people said that I need some sort of sunstrip UVA/UVB light that simulates natural sunlight in order for my gecko to grow normally, some others say that it’s unnecessary, and I don’t know who is right.
Pet owners, what should I do?

Lighting and Temperature:
The best way to heat your leopard gecko is by using an undertank heating pad or tape. These are available at any pet store or online. Heating one end of the cage is best. This allows for a temperature variation that your lizard needs. Heat rocks tend to become too hot for leopard geckos and should be avoided due to the risk of burns.
For viewing, a simple low-wattage light can be placed overhead on the screen-cage top and left on 12 hours a day.
Because leopard geckos are active at night (notice their vertical pupils), they do not need to bask under a special UVB light.
Albino leopard geckos are light-sensitive for the first few months of their lives, but they do fine as a pet.
The ideal temperature in the hide box is 86 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit at all times. The ambient air temperature of the room they are housed in should be above 73 degrees.
