Can I Put To Metal Halide Lights On One Ballast?
say i have to 70w metal halide light fittings and one 150w ballast can they be put together because it is still below the ballast rating or do they need separate ballasts
i realised i have a spelling mistake,
‘two’ metal halide light fittings
I don’t know if that will work. I have never even thought of trying to do something like that. One time I installed a very expensive designer type Chandler (metal halide) in an ‘upscale’ bank in San Francisco. For aesthetic reasons the ballast was remotely located. But that is how the engineers designed that fixture. All of the other fixtures I have installed had the ballast mounted within the fixture.
I have done a ton of work with HID lighting, metal halide, high pressure sodium, and mecury vapor. It is very important to understand the amount of heat that these metal halide lamps will be giving off. You would be STUPID to use the fixture in a way that the manufacturer did not design it to work.
Good luck, and follow all of the codes in the NEC. If the place burns down – you will be meeting (making them rich) with several lawyers.
JUST USE TWO 70WATT BALLASTS!!!!!!!!!!
