Should I use a high pressure sodium or a metal halide for a driveway light?
I need a driveway floodlight, and i don’t want to mess around with any halogens or fluorescents, and they have a 70 watt HPS fixture, and a 100 watt metal halide fixture. The HPS fixture is quite a bit cheaper, but which should I go with? Thanks!
The HPS will last longer but has the yellow color.
The Metal Halide will give a more natural light but the life expectancy is shorter and they burn hotter.
Years ago the most common street light was a 202W incandescent A bit of a change in the 60′s brought the 175W Mercury Vapor – in the 80′s the 100W HPS and is still the norm for most Power Companies..
Too much cost for the lamp and labor to convert to Metal Halide.
