what flourescent bulb would be a replacement for an f20t12/spec35 from philips?
I need to replace my aquarium light that is a philips f20t12/spec35. I can’t find it anywhere and assuming it may not be available in a general hardware store like Lowes or Home Depot. My question is this: Is there another, more common flourescent bulb that would replace this?
A little clarification on the bulb. Although it is classified as a 24″ bulb, it actually measures 23 1/8″. Every bulb I find, Aquarium, or otherwise, is too long and measures a true 24″. What other bulb would measure 23 1/8″ that would work?
Just a note about color, the spec 35 (3500 degree kelvin temp) isn’t normal for aquarium that’s more of an office lighting color, a cool white (4100 degree) would would be a little more blue have just about the same effect and would be fine if you have only fresh water fish. I don’t know why Lowes didn’t stock a 3500 degree lamp, but they should have an aquarium lamp, they normally have a color temperature of 10,000+ degrees.
Do not substitute an F17T8 lamp, the operating characteristics a completely different, it may start, but won’t last.
* The nominal length of a fluorescent lamp includes the sockets, even 8′ lamps with plunger style sockets measure 94″ tip to tip of pins.
