This bulb is rated ate 480 lumens. The minimum for indoor growing is 2000-3000 lumens.
The other issue with this type of bulb is the spectrum of light it produces. Incandescent grow lights have a red-yellowish tone and low color temperature. They are used to highlight indoor plant groupings and not as a true plant ‘growing’ light (although they may be labeled as such). Incandescent growing lamps have an average life span of 750 hours. In addition, they are less energy efficient than fluorescent or high-intensity discharge lamps, converting much of the electricity consumed into heat (rather than light). The heat is an issue when growing in a cardboard box as you describe. Fire is a real problem! You’d be much better off switching to compact flouorescent light (CFL) bulbs. They run cooler and can be kept closer to the plants. They last longer, cost less to run and produce a more useful spectrum. Compact Fluorescent grow light bulbs have a 75 to 90 lumens per watt. Fluorescent plant lights have much greater color rendering properties (most of the light emitted will be used by the plant) and the grow bulbs will not produce as much heat as incandescent or HID grow bulbs. This allows you to place them closer to plants (within a few inches) greatly decreasing light loss from the lamps to the plant.
