do i use a ballast or inverter?
Okay I need to know if I can use a 400w inverter instead of a 400w ballast. This will be for powering a hps (high pressure sodium) light. If the input is AC power (like most homes) then you need a ballast. Inverter converts DC electricity to AC . Ballast limit the amount of charge which you need otherwise your HPS will just burn through. Various models are available with different properties and they consume power and heat up.
If you are inputting!!! DC power then you need a inverter which also gives you a set output of AC power into your HPS.
