whats is a standby HPS?
i have seen these standby HPS (high pressure sodium) lamps and i dont know what they do and what is there purpose..? hope some one can help thanks.
Basically nearby astronomical observatories and in cities. I can’t tell what wikipedia is trying to say, but they are used nearby astronomical observatories (large telescopes look at the night sky). These are used as street lights and such as well to get the clouds to glow. The yellow light from the bulbs hit the clouds in the sky and bounce off actually giving light to the night (poet, didn’t even know it). From outside the city, there is a yellowish glow coming from the city.
Most of the gas in the bulb is sodium and when it’s excited sodium emits strong wavelengths of yellow and so whenever these characteristics are needed, these types of bulbs are used.
