Could I use a 50w high pressure sodium bulb on a lamp that uses incandescent bulbs max 60w?
Would i be able to hook up a 50w high sodium pressure bulb to a lamp that uses incandescent bulb with a max of 60w and would I be able to keep it running long periods of time, like days?
No, you can’t hook an HPS bulb up directly to your power source, unlike an incandescent bulb. The HPS bulb requires a special transformer/ballast that provides a high-voltage to get it started, then limits the current once it strikes to keep from overpowering it and burning it out in a flash.
You need a light fixture (luminaire) that is specifically designed to accept an HPS lamp.
