What is better; a Blue LED grow light or a red one?
what is better a blue or red led grow light for “growing” I read something about the plant needed blue light for it early growth and red light for its older growth. They also have grow lights that are blue and red but for every 3 red LED bulb there would be 1 blue LED bulb, so should i get it? all three have the same wattage and cost; 110 watts for ~$35
Red light is better for foliage growth, and blue better for new growth, but that does not mean ONLY red or blue. Chlorophyll absorbs both red and blue light so for good photosynthesis you need both. I don’t spend extra money on specialty bulbs. Having red+blue lights is not better than having white light with the same red and blue intensity. I buy daylight fluorescent bulbs and my plants do fine. You can buy several 100 watt compact fluorescent lights for that $35. Just don’t use an incandescent light. Most of the radiation comes off as heat and they dry the plant out fast.
