LED lighting for aquarium?
I have a 50 watt LED light that is over a 10 gallon tank. will this grow plants. can i put coral in this aquarium. I can also hook up a screw in compact flourescent if need be.
if an LED has no effect on coral why do they make the small LED lights for coral at night…
Wow a lot of really bad answers here. Depending on the LED light that you have, yes you may be able to use it. The small LEDs the blue ones you are talking about are to duplicate MOON light, some believe this helps coral to spawn, others use it just because they like the look and are able to see the tank after normal lights go out. The spectrum of light the others are talking about is way off. Corals grow best at 6500Kelvin to 20,000 kelvin. The sun is about 5500 kelvin. But a rating that low would help to cause massive algae out breaks. The 20,000 kelvin end cause very slow growth but good coral coloration. The par level or Photosynthetically Active Radiation is more important than spectrum .
But in the end, you would be better suited with a small inexpensive T-5 fixture to light a 10 gallon.
