Question about 120v appliances in europe?
I’m wondering if you can use 120v lamps if you use a converter, or not because of wiring?
Europe’s power is 220VAC at 50 cycles. North America uses 120VAC at 60 cycles.
To use lamps, you would need a transformer to take the 220 volts and reduce it 50 120 volts. That works just fine for lamps, toasters, etc.; i.e. anything with a “resistive” load. Rotating devices will have a problem because the motors are designed for 60 cycles and will run more slowly at 50 cycles making them run hotter also.
