aquarium lighting? what kind should i use?
should i use my fish tank hood with a 15w light or a 100w lamp that’s about 2 feet above the surface of the tank to light my 25g planted aquarium.

Your Lotus requires a very high level of light and will grow out of the water. The Java fern, Java Moss and Anubius Bateri are low light plants and can’t handle the high light level. Anubius shouldn’t be added to an aquarium until it is several months old and well established. Amazon Swords vary greatly though usually do best in medium to high light levels.
I believe in 2-3 watts per gallon. I usually use 3 florescent lights the cover the top of the aquarium. The bulbs are all full spectrum with a cri index of 91 or higher and Kelvin ratings between 5200 and 6500. I put them on a timer for 12 hours per day.
Nothing will live w/ the 15w bulb. If by a lamp you mean a regular light bulb lamp I don’t expect that to work though your best bet is to put a full spectrum flood bulb in there and aim it right at the red tiger lotus and hope. Aquatic Gardeners is a group on-line that specializes in plants and there used to be other forums as well. You don’t need to get as high tech as these groups state. Look up low light level plants and plant heavily to start with 2-3 watts per gallon and you should be able to grow plants. I always start my new tanks w/ hygrophilia. It’s a fast growing stem plant and will keep your algae low. Buy 3 DWARF Bristlenose Plecostomous and add them w/o ever putting any food in the tank. Do this 2 days after you initially set up the aquarium.
