Where can I find the best deal on household LED lights?
I just purchased a 7.5W 450 lumen (120v A19/med. base) LED light made by Utilitech Pro. This cost $17 at lowe’s. I know $17 for an LED bulb is not bad but I would really like to find a better deal. I would be looking for mostly A19 bulbs (hopefully more lumens) as well as some candelabra base small globes(1-1.5″ dia.), some medium base globes (regular bathroom fixture size- sorry I don’
t know the G#), as well as some E17 med. base bulbs.
I know I was very specific in listing bulb styles but if you know a website with super cheap LED’s that would be great! Thanks!
Household LED bulbs are down from the $40 level of a year or two ago (and $100 five years ago) but still aren’t super cheap anywhere that I’m aware of. Not even the wholesale clubs (Costco , Sam’s Club, and BJ’s) have prices that I consider to be cost effective at the moment. I’ll give it at least another year or two before expecting any real deals. CFL’s still match or exceed the efficiency of LEDs with lumen/watt figures in the 60′s to nearly 70 for 13 watt and larger sizes (375/7, 800/13, 1200/19, 1600/23). I’m already seeing CFL waranties as long as 9 years so a LED lamp that will last 5 times longer won’t be a major consideration for most folks. LEDs have an efficiency edge in the lower wattages and reflector replacement applications such as floodlights and traffic signals. Economical heat dissipation remains a problem to be resolved.
Lamp descriptions such as A19, G30, T8, R40, Par38 and the like describe the shape of the bulb and its approximate diameter in 8ths of an inch. The A shape is what most folks think of as “light bulb shaped” while the others mean globe, tubular, reflector, and parabolic reflector.
