Can I grow vegetables under normal CFL bulbs?
I am just wondering if normal CFL bulbs (the swirly ones) will be enough power to grow tomatoes, and maybe lettuce indoors. I have a small space out side, but I am growing watermelons out there, so I cannot do it outdoors. I have 13 watt bulbs, and I have no intention of buying any HPS, MH, or LED bulbs, cause it would not be worth it, but I can buy multiple light fixtures, as it is more of a novelty than anything. I want to know, what is the cheapest thing that I can do for lighting, and is there any decent fertilizers to use in doors, other than miracle grow? thanks, and any suggestions are appreciated.
Yes CFLs will work, but one bulb will only cover the area of 2 small plants.
If you want a larger growing area so you can plant more plants, you can use shop lights with 2 High output fluorescent tubes.
They have chains on them so that you can adjust them as the plants grow. The lights should be 2 to 4 inches above the top leaves.
