Can I plug a 120 watt HPS or MH light into a standard 120V socket and 15 amp wall plug?
Experimenting with some home growing lights and am wondering if I can plug a new 120 watt HPS or MH (High pressure sodium and Metal Halide) light into my fluorescent light bulb socket and wall outlet. The outlet is 15 amps and the light would be the only thing plugged into the wall. The fluorescent light bulb socket is 120V. I am trying to eliminate the need for a ballast, but don’t want the lights to blow or short my circuit. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
If you are trying to get away from having a ballast, then this is not going to help. Florescent, HPS, and Metal Halide all require ballasts. They are all different too.
If this is going to be indoors, be careful. Most HPS and MH fixtures are not intended to be used indoors in a residence.
