What can you guys tell me about baby tears?
I’ve been doing some research on which plants would be the best to make a nice foreground plant in my little 2.5 gallon shrimp tank. I looked at dwarf baby tears but they seem to be a touchy plant that I don’t really want to mess around with. However, I have been getting the impression the regular baby tears are a little easier to grow. I have black sand, a 10w full color light (4 wpg), and a good filter. I don’t have a heater (wouldn’t make sense for a 2.5 gallon), and I don’t want to get involved with a CO2 injector. Would baby tears be a reasonable choice for my tank? What else can you tell me about regular baby tears? Any info is greatly needed. Thanks everyone 
Baby Tears (HM) is certainly easier than Dwarf Baby Tears (HC), but it probably won’t grow well in that setup, and it certainly would not stay a foreground plant. For it to remain low-growing, it needs intense light – otherwise, it grows upright.
I should also point out that the “WPG” rule isn’t very good, especially for smaller tanks. While 4 WPG may seem like a lot, it’s actually considered low for a 2.5g. It’s hard to grow any foreground plants in this situation, because a lot of the species usually used for the foreground are big enough to act as mid or background plants in a 2.5g, and the ones that do stay small enough to stay a foreground plant require much brighter lighting – as is the case with HM and HC. The only plants that come to mind right now are the various Marsilea species (commonly known as Four-leaf Clovers). They do require some patience as they’re slow growers and will take some time to convert to their submerged form, but I’ve previously grown them in a 2.5g with 13w and DIY CO2.
