400W HPS How hot can this light get in a closet??? HELP PLEASE?
How hot can a 400 W High Pressure Sodium light get? im using a space maybe 3x5x10 its my closet and i do have an attic door available. if i put it in my closet will the heat rise up to the attic if i open it? would a couple fans help cool the closet? any help will be greatly appreciated .
Don- I had that in mind but should i open the attic? will that help the heat escape?
Your telling me the temp in that closet would be 172 degrees?
How hot a 400W lamp inside a closet gets depends on 2 things:
1) temperature outside the closet.
2) insulation (R or RSI) factor of the closet.
3x5x2 + 3x10x2 + 5x10x2 gives a surface area of 30+60+100 = 190 units square. (You didn’t specify metres or feet, but feet looks more likely).
If it’s 20°C outside (room temperature), and you’ve got 190 sq ft (about 17.1 sq m.) and R-14 insulation (RSI 2.5) on all six sides of the closet (including floor), then:
2.5 = K·m²/W
m²=17
W= 400
so K = 2.5 / 17.1 * 400 = 58° temperature rise
20°+58°= 78° C, or 78/5*9+32 = 172° F.
This doesn’t count the gradient – it’ll be hotter at the lamp, and cooler farther from it.
