Dimming compact fluorescent bulbs (CFL)?
Most CFLs cannot be dimmed, their manufacturers say. I have two questions-
A) If you use a dimmer and try to dim it, is it bad for the bulb ?
B) If you have a dimmer switch connected but keep it in the undimmed (full brightness) position, will it affect the bulb in any way ?
The CFL bulbs documentation states clearly that they do not work with a dimmer.
There are special CFL bulbs that are supposed to be dimmable. I bought 2 and tried them. They worked poorly with a dimmer, with a limited range, and they both failed to work after a few days of use. And since I bought them online, the cost and hassle to return them was not worth any refund I would get, so I was out that cost.
B) no, in the full brightness position, the dimmer is out of the circuit.
