What does this engine light test mean?
So I went to pepboys to do the free engine light test. They said it didn’t tell them anything but on the paper it says p2710 pressure control solenoid. Its an automatic 2006 Toyota corolla S with 110,000 miles on it. After I noticed the light coming on it started jolting when it would change gears as I was driving it or when I put it in reverse etc. Any ideas? I haven’t had a tune up in forever and im not familiar what they even do during a tune up. Could it be as simple as that? Some info on that would also be appreciated. I have however had the oil changed recently.
Quite simple. The gearbox contains solenoids that control amount of pressure in engaging gears. The jolts you are getting is because the solenoid is shot or a part of it is damaged. It is a foul job indeed because it means gearbox needs to come out of the car. OR… you could see if there is a software upgrade for your box this may or may not resolve the problem temporarily… at about that mileage though it is most likely the gearbox on its last legs. If you have any option to manually engage gears (semi-auto) then see if that is easier. Also drive without giving it too much gas and avoid kick downs.
