How can I cope with my algae problem?
I have a 10 tank with 2x Tiger barbs, 1x Angelfish, 3x Bleeding Heart Tetras, and 2 Pleco. I had a MASSIVE algae outbreak about 1/2 a week ago. Algae all over the plants, rocks, glass, etc. I added 2 pleco to help, but there’s still algae in the water making it unbearable to look at! I’m thinking of algae killer but i’m sceptical if it’ll kill my plants. I have 4x Hairgrass, 7x Amazon Swords, A bundle of 4x plants(unknown), a rather bushy plants(again, unknown), and 1x Java Fern. The outbreajk occured because I had 120w of lighting but I switched back to a 20w.
as much as it sucks, i would suggest removing as much as you can manually … then never feed those plecos so they will eat what is left over … i would be hesitant too using chemicalst as i would worry about the plants … after a serious manual removal, several small water changes and every time you siphon off some water, rinse your filter cartridge in the siphoned off water … the good news is you know why it happened and it will go back to normal with a bit of work … don’t feed the plecos :O)
