What is the best LED grow lights for the flowers/fruiting stage?
When I go trought the models I can find on eBay, I see that there is different kind of LED grow lights… There is Blue, Red, mixed (Blue + Red), and full spectrum (Red + Blue + Orange + White). I’ve heard that the plant need more of the red spectrum for fruiting/flowering and the blue spectrum for the vegetative perdiod…
So, my question is : Does the plant only use red spectrum while fruiting/flowering (so it would be intresting to buy the panel with only red LED), or the plant still need the blue spectrum (so it would be more intresting to get the red-blue mix).
And my other question would be : It seems that plants only use blue and red spectrum… Is that true? If not, would it really be a good idea to go with the full spectrum led panel (Red, Blue, Orange and White) ?
The plant does use light from every spectrum except the green spectrum. That is why you can use green lights during the dark period without interrupting the flowering cycle. You are correct that the plant uses more of the red spectrum while growing in the flowering cycle. Unless you are gonna go with one of the professionally made leds (which are big bucks), believe me you are not going to see very good results at all, in my opinion. Your best option is to go with a High Pressure Sodium lamp. They do cost a little bit more then the trash led models you see on ebay, but that is because you will see results. You could always go small and get something like a 150 watt hps lamp and just grow a smaller amount, and still see great results. But as far as the full spectrum, there is a lot of controversy in the growing community on what is the best. Some swear by using a metal halide (more blue spectrum) during Veg, and HPS (more red spectrum) during flowering. Some say MH through the whole grow, and some say HPS through the whole grow. Everyone has good results with all combinations mentioned above. Experiment a little and see what results you get. But you cant go wrong with HID (High Intensity Discharge) which is the Metal Halides and the High Pressure Sodium’s.
