I currently have 2 24″ cheapy shop light type standard fluorescents on my tank. I have a bunch of live plants, that are not doing to well under the standard lights, thats the reason for my upgrade.
Often the best deals can be found through your local aquarium club. Call your local independent fish store and ask them. Many members have excess equipment that they sell for a song. You can also check on Craig’s list. Lots of people selling their stuff because of the economy.
