Using 2 incandescent light bulbs, rated 25 Watts each, sufficient enough for a 20 gallon planted aquarium?
I have everything set including 1 inch substrate, a yeast C02 generator, and Flourish excel plant food. Just concerned about my lighting.
Should I switch over to florescent lighting?? I think i read somewhere that incandescent light bulbs produce a spectrum that plants cannot efficiently absorb. They only take in 10 % or less.
Incandescent bulbs are virtually useless for growing plants. The problem with them isn’t so much the spectrum they produce, but the amount of usable light. Even regular fluorescent bulbs creates about 4 to 5 times more light using the same amount of energy.
Depending on what you want to do, you might not be need to switch light fixtures. If you’re already using an incandescent fixture, you can simply replace the incandescent bulbs with screw-in compact fluorescent bulbs (CFLs). These are more powerful than regular fluorescent lighting, and are also more flexible due to large assortment of bulbs available.
