Aquarium lighting for a small salt water tank?
I have a small 10 gallon salt water tank that just finished cycling. So far I’ve only put a couple live rocks w/ coraline algae on them in it. I plan to put a couple false perc clown fish in it (they’re very young- by the time they get bigger I will have a bigger aquarium) but wouldn’t mind putting a mushroom or two in it as well. I am wondering about the light for that though. It’s a 10 watt fixture w/ a 8000k actinic light. It’s just a t-5 light. I understand that’s designated as “low lighting”- as far as coral, plants, etc, what can grow in this- if anything?
Your lighting is indeed adequate for mushrooms and other low light soft corals. You could house Pulsing Xenias which make a nice display. Check out Zoanthids and other similar polys.
There is a new type of lighting that has just hit the market which you may be interested in which allow you a greater range of tank mates. It’s called solid state lighting. It’s basically a number of super bright LED’s which have the benefits of creating little to no heat, are cheap to run and last 10 years plus.
