What size cable in mm section is needed for a 12v run of 50m with a 300w light at the end?
A 300W load at 12 volts represents 25 amps. Provided your cable is not in conduit or underground, I would use 4mm squared copper cable (single insulated building wire). If it is double insulated multicore cable, I would use 6mm squared.
If you wish to make sure that you don’t suffer too much voltage drop, use the 6mm squared copper cable.
The values I am using are cross sectional area.
