Commercial lighting question? ?
I am trying to get some low bay metal halide lights 400 watt for my body shop. The lighting company I am wanting to order these lights from said that they need the amount of foot candles I need for my shop. The lighting company could not tell me how to figure the foot candle measurment. The Demensions of the shop are 100ft X 40ft X 18 ft high. About how many lights should I use.
Also I am wondering what wiring I should use for these fixtures.
The light model I am looking at is #FP40 made by Cooper Lighting
20 fc is on the dim side, but maybe OK for general use.
50 – 100 better for closer work areas. 200 is great for fine work.
Supplier should have lighting charts showing area covered by lights (generally sort of a circle). These are used to determine light intensity from lamp, and how many lamps are needed.
Consult electrician for wiring. There are charts for wire sizes and such online, but you need an licensed electrician to put it in anyway.
