need help 10 gallon lighting for plants?
I have a new 10 gallon I want to set up for a baby tank.
I’m wondering just how much, or rather how little lighting I can get away with and still grow a few plants like Java moss, ammo moss, anubias etc.
I hae just a regualr black hood, what bulbs should I install. I do have 2 Hartz Aquarium relflector bulbs that are 120v/ 40 watt. Would that be enough to grow the low lights plants?
Any tips, helps. I really don’t want to spend any on substrate or expensive bulbs. Just wondering what level of bulb I can get away with?

If those are truly 40 watt lights each, one of them would be too much. You would be giving your tank 8 watts per gallon, which in my opinion, is too bright and will encourage algae growth. The plants you listed do not need much light, or else algae will grow on them. The plants you mentioned need 1 – 2 watts per gallon.
Also, your regular black hood most likely will not support the high wattage bulbs. You should get fluorescent light bulbs which give off 2 – 3 watts per gallon (6500k or more for spectrum).
