1996 Cherokee Gen light coming on?
The gen light comes on and the voltage gauge shows that the system is not charging. If I drive the car for a couple of miles the voltage gauge shows that the system starts charging. I took the alternator out, had it tested and it checked out fine. I cleaned the two grounds that go to the block and the relay connection near the fuse panel. It was fine for about a month now it is doing the same thing again. If I drive it a couple of miles it seems to start charging again. It doesn’t happen constantly. Not sure what to think now?

buy a new alternator AND change the belt. Sometimes alternators will play games of this nature and it is often caused by a worn belt. Considering the age of the vehicle change that alternator AND belt.
Also the belt will not work correctly or have the proper tension if the tensioner is worn out; make sure the tensioner is working correctly or you will need to change that as well.
