Marijuana seeds. I’m 1st time grower, any tips will help!?
I’ve just planted my seeds in jiffy peat pods. Is it ok to use compact flourescent lite bulbs, BEFORE and AFTER seeds sprout through soil?? I’m using 1- 75watt 6500k and 1- 75watt 3500k compact flourescents,in a polished silver clip fixture.
I put my seeds in peat and covered with 1/4″. peat pods were soaked in water until they expanded to 1.5″. How often do I need to water??
Can I grow my plants with flourescent lighting until harvest? or do I need to invest in a 600watt grow lite, and when do I need to start to use it?? How high abv plants should I set up this 600w?
I’m on a low budget, but I do want good weed.
I would use the 6500K spectrum up until you start flowering to keep the height between branches (internodal length) shorter. Add in the 3000 or 3500K at the start of flowering.
Just keep peat moist, not dripping until the plant is showing roots at the bottom of the pot.
You can use the fluorescents the entire time but will need to add lots more wattage. If you are using T5 style bulbs they are more efficient so you get more actual light output per watt of electricity used (lumens per watt or Efficacy). Compact fluorescents that screw into a regular light socket are not so efficient so more watts will be needed to get the same effect.

you can see that the linear fluorescent is much close to the lumen output of a metal halide bulb. Another very important factor is the area you intend to broadcast this light upon
5ft x 5ft? 10ft x 10ft? you would need four times as much light evenly distributed on the 10ft square as you would on the 5ft one to get the same result. Using that one 600w would be just fine but it would be from a single point of light if you used many fluorescents there would be less shading and your garden would make better use of the light you are giving it. That being said it is way more time consuming to build a setup with many CFL lights and T5 systems are about as expensive as going the 600W route. I’ve used T5 bulbs before in four foot racks that held six bulbs each, one thing I did love was having one bulb die out was no big deal ( it is if you only have one to begin with ). Also having many different bulbs I was able to slowly swap out the 6500K ones with 3000K and also slowly change the time cycle from 18 to 12 hrs, usually 2 hrs and 2 bulbs per fixture every three days, give you that kinda gradual natural seasonal change in the lighting (have no idea if it really makes a difference but it made me sleep better at night 
Oh and set up the 600W about 1.5 to 2 feet above plants, start with it farther away and slowly bring it in closer. It will put off some serious heat and its best to use a fan cooled hood, the fluorescents can be put much closer 8-10 inches because they run much cooler. If your leaves closest to the lights start to get crispy back the lights off some.
