no salt from A salt softener?
nmexican said that salt doesn’t get into the water? I have been reading a lot of information and they mostly all say that the salt goes into the water when it is replaced by the minerals it catches. I am concerned about high salt intake since there is a history of heart problems. I just installed a GE water softener and wonder if potassium is better? However my wife is affected by potassium, it makes her dizzy if she drinks cream soda with high potassium. Can i get more information on the salt exchange? And if a filter will stop the sodium.
A water softener has small plastic like beads in it called resin. Salt Ions sit in the resin and catch impurities in the water. When it is time to backwash the bed of resin is flushed with water to remove the impurities or hardness. After it is flushed the resin is recharged with brine from the brine tank. Residual salt is passed through into the soft water. They don’t recommend you drink this water. Or have your outside taps hooked to it because your wasting salt. Because it has to recharge more often based on water consumption. I would suggest a portable reverse osmosis system hooked up under the kitchen sink. Check on line regarding the latter.
