I am looking for an amp that will give me good 80′s thrash metal crunch.?
I do not need a beastly 150W amp because I understand that those have to be turned up loud to get good gain. As such, I am looking for something about 50 watts. Any suggestions? I am not going to play out with this amp. I have a small jam room so a 150 W amp would be too much and over power my band mates. Is even 50 W too loud or not enough???
I am confused about the difference between getting a certain manufacturer’s 50W amp head + cabinet versus the same manufacturer’s 50W combo amp. Keep in mind that I will not be transporting this frequently if at all, so weight is not an issue. For instance, people have recommended a Mesa Single Rectifier. Mesa makes a Single Rectifier head + cab, but they also manufacture a Single Rectifier Combo. Why choose one over the other?
Besides the Mesa, can anybody recommend any boutique amps that could meet or beat these Mesa Amps that seem to be so mainstream these days?
