How do you maintain Live Rock Rubble in a Canister Filter?
I recently asked about live rock in a canister filter. I would like to go a little further into this matter.
I am setting up my tank this week. It would be a 112 Gl tank with the Eheim 2227 full of LR Rubble. Also have a CPR small Aquafuge to keep some algae. My lamps will be 2×250 15k MH, 240 watts of actinics and moon ligths.
I have set up a plenum in the botton using eggcrate and plastic screening. I placed this 1″ above the botton using pvc pipping. On top of that I have 1 1/2″ of crushed coral, more screening over that and 2 1/2″ of a mix of live and dead 1 mm pink sand.
I will also add 121 Lbs of Fiji Live Rock.
For circulation I will have 4xKoralia 4 pumps.
What are your opinions on my setup? What should be the maintenance for the Eheim 2227? Hoe often should I change the live rubble? Hows does “no light” affect the rubble?

Live rock is cured in “no light” conditions. However, from what I’m reading here, you really want to keep your live rock in a sump and extra bio substrate in your canister filter.
Your live rock should never be changed. But you can try switching from filter to tank once a month. Set aside some rubble in your tank that will be on rotation with what’s in your filter.
