Do high pressure sodium light bulbs take a long time to light up at first?
This is a brand new 150 watt bulb, and I’ve had it plugged into a fixture designed for up to 150 watts, but it isn’t lighting up. I don’t want my house to burn down.
Errrrrrrrrrrrr you do know that sodium lamps require control electronics do you?
They cannot be used like a normal light bulb – they need extra things – like ballasts and starters – not totally unlike flourescent tubes.
They DO take a while to run brightly, but when driven by a proper circuit they “strike” almost instantly and glow a reddish/purple colour.
