will algae grow in blue LED light?
got a “moonlight” LED light set for my aquarium, and now I’m wondering if algae will be able to grow in the blue light from them? No guessing please.
-or plants for that matter!

I hope this question attracts someone who knows this stuff. Plants, for instance, only utilize light roughtly 8-10 hours a day, algae can utilize it 24/7. Also, they dont have preferred light colors, color in light is simply different wavelength, so I’m basically wondering if blue light initiates photosynthesis. -if it does, it would be a bad idea to have these LED lights on all night!
Mainly depends on your set. More times than not moonlight LED’s are just low output LED’s, not powerful enough to grow plants, algae, or anything along those lines. The more you have on (such as a larger strip of LED’s over a smaller tank) the more likely it is for it to produce algae.
As you pointed out, algae feeds off of mostly every wavelength, so you’re not safe if you’d go with a blue flourecent, or something along those lines. As long as your kit was marketed as a moonlight set, you’ll be safe, as it won’t put out enough light for anything to sustain life.
