Power bill still too high. Any ideas on how to get my house cooler during the summer?
I live in Vegas and my power bill reaches about $200-$250 a month during the summertime due to the a/c and basic electricity use. We’ve switched all the bulbs with CFL’s, keep the blinds, windows and doors closed all day, keep the lights off during the day, and installed ceiling fans in all the rooms. We also raised the a/c up to 78-80 degrees to cut back on power consumption. The house is a bit on the warm side but is just comfortable enough to stand, but our bill is still too high and the a/c runs a lot during the daytime still (although not quite as much). The house is roughly 1300 sq ft. I want to get the house cooler in order to avoid using the a/c as much to save even more money.
Any ideas on what else I can do to lower my power bill?
Also, has anyone tried solar panels yet? How expensive are they? How much power does it save? Is it worth the investment?
Fans. Lots of fans. Seriously…if you’re planning on sitting somewhere or being in one room for a while..buy a box fan for $15-20 at a dollar store. They’re amazing. You won’t even realize you have the AC off.
