emisions of a power plants?
Im writing an article for school on lowering your carbon footprint and I would like to have some kind of chart or graph to show the emissions created from running a conventional incandescent light bulb (60w) for one year from say, a coal or natural gas power plant. I would like to put this alongside the emissions created from running a cfl bulb and maybe an led lamp to show how they are cleaner. I know that a 60 watt bulb is about 1.44kwh, I just do not know how many cubic feet of co2 is created to create that.
I’m pretty sure you should be able to find everything you need on the packages of the respective light bulbs, which in this case would be the wattage. A 60 watt CFL bulb uses the same amount of energy as a 60 watt incandescent bulb. What you should really be looking at here is the amount of light (measured in lumens) produced per watt of energy used. A 25 watt CFL produces about the same amount of light as a 100 watt incandescent bulb, so if a 60 watt bulb uses ~1.44 kwh, a 100 watt bulb uses ~2.40kwh and a 25 watt bulb uses ~0.60kwh.
Now all you need is a figure stating the amount of CO2 produced per kilowatt hour. Obviously 2.4kwh produces more CO2 than 0.6, but exactly how much is that?
