Will losing weight help me get off blood pressure medicine or will i be on it as long as i overload on salt?
I am addicted to salt. I can’t help it. EVERYTHING (other than fruits and veggies), have SALT OR SUGAR! I am not much on sweets because it gives me a belly ache. Salt gets my taste buds jumpin’ and i love pickles, olives, jalepenos, cocktail onions and all of the other pickled stuff. I have heard that apple cider vinegar lowers blood pressure so i have been eating a lot of cucumbers in vinegar with LIGHT salt and pepper. I don’t know how to cut out salt without cutting EVERYTHING (but fruits and veggies) out of my diet. Please help me. I am on blood pressure meds now Hydroclorothiazide 25mg. I have lost 52 pounds. Is there a chance i can get off of them if i lose more weight (i am 7 pounds overweight for my height), or will i always have high blood pressure as long as i eat a lot of sodium? Thanks :/
Losing weight, on its own, should help your blood pressure, but eating a high amount of salt still poses a serious risk to your blood pressure (among other things). If you can, I recommend checking your blood pressure regularly to see if it drop with weight loss, but I also recommend seeing a nutritionist for advice on cutting down your salt intake. I truly feel for you, as I also have a strong love/hate relationship with salt (I know it’s bad for me, but I still crave it).
Also, try a simple Google search on foods or supplements that lower blood pressure or replace sodium… the results may be more helpful than those of a nutritionist.
