What specifically is the best bulb to use for a jewelry store? Floor or spot and which kind?
We have a new jewelry store in a mall and the lighting seems very dull. What kind of bulbs should we use to really make the store stand out fully illuminated? Spot or flood lights? Then which kind specifically? Thanks very much!
YIKES! What a question (and a good one). Are you selling mostly pearls or mostly diamonds? Stones or metal?
Diamonds like ‘high-temperature’ lights, 5.1K or better CFL Lamps will do very nicely.
Gold likes hot incandescent light as do most deeply colored stones (rubies, emeralds, topaz). Low voltage halogens do very well here.
Silver likes what Diamonds like, but shows well under any light.
Light stones and pearls like a bit of fluorescent but prefer mostly incandescent.
Suggestion: Mix the two. Use high CFL-type floods at the ceiling, and use miniature halogen spots over the cases and on display pieces. Your store will ‘glow’ at a distance and get considerable attention.
Warning to the staff in that store – Be careful what color clothes you wear and how you do makeup. That sort of lighting is as unmerciful as direct sunlight.
