I have a 240 volt aquarium light on a cherry shrimp tank is this ok or is it too bright?

240 volt is what power your light requires from your mains to light up. You need to let us know the type of light system you are using eg: fluorescent tubes, light bulbs, metal halide lights and now LED lights, then you need to let us know the amount of watts it is putting out or sometimes it is rated with candle light. If you look on the tube or bulb you may see something like 2000K.
You will also need to let us know the size of your tank and if you require lighting for plants etc.

OK, on a 4 US gallon (15.14 litres) tank a single fluorescent tube will do fine for your cherry shrimp and the type of plants you have. If you feel it is two bright then take the fluorescent tube with you to a shop and ask for the same size but less wattage, you could also ask about the different types of light output, like Daylight or Natural light, this will also make a difference to the look of your tank
