How can LED lights grow plants?
How is it possible for LED to grow plants? Do they have the same frequency as sunlight?
Not necessarily frequency (I think you mean wavelength here), but they can be manufactured to produce light in any wavelength desired. And they are being produced for use in hydroponics and aquariums.
They have the advantage of long life, low heat generation (so most of the energy used goes toward light, so they cost less to use), they don’t require a ballast (like fluorescent or metal halide lighting), and they don’t contain the toxic materials found in fluorescent tubes, so they’re more easily disposed of. The disadvantage – right now, the initial cost of setting up a system, although the savings in electricity and bulb replacement will save money in the long run:
