Why is LPS better than Mercury Vapor & HPS Lighting?
Incandescent lighting was supplanted by Both Quartz AND Mercury Vapor lighting. LPS, (Low Pressure Sodium lighting,) is the most economical light source available, Lasts longer, cost less to operate, is a DEFINITE “GREEN” light, better even than High Pressure sodium, HPS. WHY??
Like the previous answer said, the monochromatic light of LPS causes visibility problems for the intended users, but astronomers like it because it is relatively easy to filter out of most of their observations.
