Is lead solder used in commerical lightbulbs?
I was wondering, in commercial, off-the-shelf lightbulbs avalible in the United States, first of all is any solder used in the socket part, of either the lightbulb or the lamp? Second, if there is, is it leaded solder, or lead-free?
I really hate all lead, and was wondering about this, because though I used the recommended wattage and voltage bulb for my new lamp, the metal part of the lamp heats up a lot a few minutes after using it (not read hot or anything, but hot enough that it can’t be touched for more than a second), and when I inspected the bulb to see if it’s affecting it, I found splotches of rust on the socket part of the bulb. I’m thinking of getting a lower-watt bulb at Wal-Mart, but I’m a lot more sensitive than most people to handling anything with even a trace of lead in it.
P.S. Add external sources, if you know them.
Yes, there is lead solder used in most light bulbs. And Mercury in some too. It’s a cruel world.
